The Festival Otoño Musical Soriano was founded in 1993 by Maestro Odón Alonso. After almost three decades of existence, it is an unavoidable event in Soria's cultural life. Sponsored by the Soria City Council, and, since 2021, co-produced with the Junta de Castilla y León under the name of Festival Otoño Musical Soriano – Festival Internacional de Castilla y León, the festival is a sustainable cultural project that seeks to combine, during the three weeks in which it takes place in September, the best international soloists and orchestras, local talent, and young musical promises. Soloists including María João Pires, Renaud Capuçon, Ivo Pogorelich,  Joaquí Achúcarro, Jordi Savall, Kiri Te Kanawa and Ainhoa Arteta, vocal ensembles including the Kings Singers, VOCES8 and the Orfeón Donostiarra and orchestras including the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, the Castilla y León Euskadi and Bilbao symphony orchestras and the Orquesta y Coro Nacionales de España have stepped onto the festival stage. Renowned composers such as Tomás Marco or Antón García Abril have assimilated Soria's cultural idiosyncrasy –from Machado to Numantine deeds– in applauded commissioned works. Educational concerts led by Fernando Argenta or Ara Malikian have brought music closer to the little ones. Young talent, with ensembles including the Joven Orquesta Sinfónica de Soria, the JONDE and the Sant Andreu Jazz Band, have their place in the series “Nuestros Jóvenes” and Soria musicians find their niche in the consolidated Maratón Musical Soriano, a platform that brings music to the most emblematic corners of the city and in which to develop their creative aims. Some of the festival’s latest moves have been including jazz concerts with Michel Camilo, among others, and flamenco with Paco de Lucía, José Mercé, María Pagés and Diego el Cigala. In short, the Festival Otoño Musical Soriano programme is, year after year, an example of commitment to artistic talent and to its audience, and it has placed Soria internationally.
